Wide bands of clay, dust, and charcoal sit in a long horizontal quiet. The horizon is not a landscape. It is a decision about where the eye is allowed to rest.
From the studio
The painting was worked flat on the studio floor so the bands could settle without the drama of a vertical gesture.
